The concept of Ford Super Chief Truck was presented at the 2006 North American International Show in Detroit, Michigan. With its exclusive tri-flex V10 engine that can accommodate three types of fuel, it has been designed to offer traditional truck buyers an eco-friendly luxury option. Rumors have circulated that the Super Chief will finally be in production in 2017, and then in 2018. Truck enthusiasts continue to hold their breath, hoping that 2020 will be the year the Super Chief is finally in the corridors. The exhibition. If so, this is what buyers can expect to see, according to the 2006 design.
The inspiration for the design of the truck and, therefore, its name, comes from the legendary Super Chief trains, which go from Chicago to Los Angeles from the 1930s to the 1960s. If it were put into production, the Super Chief would be different of all Trucks currently on the market.
The goal was to combine the traditional look of a rugged and durable work truck with luxurious styling and advanced features. The final result could be described as retro-futuristic.
The frame and the aluminum parts contribute to the lightness and durability of the Super Chief. The truck also has many safety features, including front and side airbags, seat belt reminders and BlockerBeam technology, designed to reduce shock and serious injury in a car collision.
The four doors open completely and independently of one another, facilitating entry and exit. This view shows a spacious interior in line with the truck’s emphasis on luxury services and comfortable driving.
With a 79-inch clearance, a four-wheel drive transmission and a 10,000-pound towing capacity, the Super Chief is a big beast in the heavy duty department.
The large windows on the front, rear and side allow a lot of light to reach the interior and provide the security of a view almost without obstacles. Another unique feature that combines form and function is the roof of the truck’s glass case.
Buyers can expect a completely redesigned chrome grille and bumper, as well as the latest LED lighting technology, both front and rear. Fog lights and towing hooks are also supplied as standard.
With another nod to the buyer of the work truck, the Super Chief has a sturdy hatchback that opens to an eight-foot-long bed. The bed also includes a bedspread, a liner and a storage tray under the bed.
The spacious and comfortable interior accommodates four people. All leather seats, a wooden floor, an instrument panel with eight-inch touch screen, brushed aluminum details and walnut are just some of the luxury interior features.
Truck buyers are hard on the head and legs, and the Super Boss offers a lot of both. Think of it as if you were traveling in first class and not as a coach. And the handling will impress even the most recognized luxury sedans drivers.
The rear passengers will enjoy soft leather seats, such as an armchair, with bags of automatic beans, two feet of legroom and a central console for drinks and snacks. Passengers can also watch their favorite movies and TV shows on two large LCD screens. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, satellite navigation and USB ports are standard.
The truck’s 24-inch wheels and customized Goodyear tires also attracted visitors to the show. More than decorative, contribute to the good walk of the Super Boss.
With a height of 6.5 feet, a width of almost 8 feet and a length of 22 feet, the Super Chief will surely dominate the market of large luxury trucks. But how much would it cost? Hard to say. The most luxurious Ford truck currently in production, the F-250 Platinum, costs around $ 62,000. The super chef will probably be the best.
The most advanced feature of the Super Chief truck concept is its exclusive supercharged “tri-flex” V10 engine, designed to run on gasoline, ethanol and hydrogen, with separate tanks for each one, located under the bottom of the bed. But energy efficiency does not mean less muscle. The Super Chief would have a power of 550 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. Couple, with a maximum speed of 180 miles per hour.
