The market for crossover / SUV is exploding in popularity and diversity, creating new faster than a fig tree in a time-lapse video branches. Infiniti QX80 but is in what seems destined to remain a small wick: the full-size, three-row luxury SUV. Of the dozens of crosses of all shapes and sizes (and prices), this class is one of the most sparsely populated. By our count, there are only five (and a half): the Cadillac Escalade, the QX80, the Lexus LX570, Lincoln Navigator and the Mercedes-Benz GLS. (Our partial credit goes to the not-quite-as-rich GMC Yukon Denali.)
How high fashion on a large scale, the QX80 works very well. Navigator and, to a lesser extent, gigantism Escalade used as its primary stylistic philosophy. For us, that they inspire the same kind of lust as backhoes and dump trucks were not the road which did not appeal to us. The LX570 is a little more subtle, until it reaches the filter face robot fish, while Mercedes is beautiful but contained. The QX80 can incorporate gracefully swoopy Infiniti design language algae -balançando-in-the-chain for an XXL screen. At least that is what some of us see it. For others it’s horrible. But definitely not conservative, it receives about the same nausea crowd.
The QX starts at $ 64.245 with all-wheel drive adding $ 3100. You can trim levels move to the range of $ 70,000, but if you want everything with a little extra prestige, US $ 89,845 Limited tested here nabs individual Truffle Brown leather with silver piping and stitching and seat cushions and center console. Matte finish open pore wood trim ash is also specific to the Limited and thus complements the leather. Overall, Infiniti luxury materials keep the interior design to fashion, even dating back to 2011. The front thrones and the middle row are luxurious and comfortable, but the seats sit high enough that the head of our highest of driver rubbed into the headliner, and is a great way to go. The row turned forward to allow easy access to a third line that will not be comfortable for most adults, but not punish the children. And children, at least have a good view. While GM utes, in particular, have swelled so obviously pillars C, Infiniti are perhaps a third of the width.
Overseas, Limited receives a global dimming, with colored lenses for head and tail lights, smoked chrome finish, and a special dark finish your standard 22-inch wheels that has a brown tint in certain lights. Even if you disagree with the style, it is difficult to oppose the palette of our example Beautiful blue.
It is also difficult to oppose the day of the QX80. Even 22-inch wheels, it is better controlled and damped than the contemporary Infiniti. Grip, however, reaches a maximum at just 0.72 g, which is behind almost everything except the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. The QX80, I riding on Bridgestone Dueler tires, size 275 / 50R-22, arrested 70 mph in 175 feet, which is decent for the class, but we noticed a little fade when our fifth stop was completed.
With 400 horsepower and 413 lb.-ft. of torque, Infiniti 5.6-liter V-8 is one of the most powerful in the class (except crazy Mercedes-AMG GLS63), but you can not touch the Escalade for any lightness or sound track. We recorded a 6.2 seconds from zero to 60 mph time on the quarter mile in 15.1 seconds at 95 mph. By way of comparison, the Caddy achieved the 5.8 and 14.3 to 98, and emits a roar that sounds like it should be bawling powder during a tar Saturday night. Given the towing capacity of 8,500 pounds of Infiniti, a tracking dirt can even find the QX80 be a utility trailer equipment. If qualifying trails only the browser, but will be happy to negotiate away additional towing capacity for superior ride Lincoln QX80. Unfortunately, fuel economy of 15 miles per gallon observed our Infiniti is quite normal for this profligate class.
The Limited is expensive, but if you can not or do not want to pay about $ 90,000, which can be mounted a less expensive version. And the new 2017 Nissan Armada, which shares its main body and mechanics with the QX80, will the overall appearance of a new price class. It can be called a new strand competition.
