Buick Encore crossover subcompact potato-shaped undergo surgery. In addition outer updated and interior design, the 2017 Buick Encore will offer the latest 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder GM in almost all lines. But we are ahead of the curve a little with this opinion, because the engine is now available in a version of the Buick 2016: Sport Touring test here.
With an additional 35 cc of displacement, direct fuel injection, and an aluminum block, four-cylinder Touring Sport Encore has 153 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque, up 15 horsepower and 29 lb.-ft. of torque in the oldest iron-block 1.4-liter turbo four that powers the rest of the programming Encore 2016.
The new engine addresses, but does not include one of our biggest complaints with Encore: his pokiness. In fact, while the Sport Touring Encore is accelerating faster than its less powerful siblings, the small passage still moves at a relaxed pace. Our test example of all-wheel drive rolled to 60 mph in 9.2 seconds somewhat bland improved 10.0 seconds of time AWD Encore achieved in 2013, but slower than the similarly sized all-wheel drive subcompact crossovers like the Fiat 500X, the Jeep Renegade, and the Mazda CX-3.
The monitoring report does not reveal the Sport Touring is smooth, willing the new nature of the engine. Turbo lag is virtually nonexistent, while the maximum torque is available at 2,000 rpm. Unfortunately, the standard six-speed automatic stop take full advantage of this, as is reluctant to reduce the marches march long, and we got a slow clock 30 to 50 kilometers per hour and 50 to 70 miles per hour races 5.3 and 6.7 seconds respectively. The above figure is behind the six vehicles in our last comparison test subcompact crossover, while the last ties to the penultimate place. There is a switch on top of the shifter to allow manual replacement of gear selection, but it is complicated to use. In manual mode, the Sport Touring not upshift until the driver requests a gear change even when the engine reaches its fuel cut.
As in all Encores, Sport Touring cabin is quiet; the only worthy to note that noise finds its way into the passenger compartment is the engine, and it is only when the four-cylinder approaches the top of its rev range. Even the automatic engine shutdown / startup is almost imperceptible standard when it shuts down or start the engine. Unfortunately, the benefits of fuel economy system were also almost undetectable, as we observed 25 mpg during our test, not far from the combined EPA-rated 29 miles per gallon, and only 1 mpg better than the 24 mpg we saw on our previous test of an Encore all-wheel drive.
All Encores also offer a fairly wide cabin for four people, it is too narrow for comfortable entry and exit via three seats in the rear and easy part through the large doors. The parking lot of this small Buick is a cinch, with the help of the dominant view of the driver’s perch. Heavyweight button on the center console and the system of information and entertainment remain obtuse, but the panel Encore 2017 and 7.0 inch touch screen new design should mitigate these problems.
Located in the center of the five-model line in 2016 Encore, Encore Sport Touring AWD starts at $ 29,775. Along with the more powerful engine, trim also adds door handles in body color, rear spoiler and exclusive 18-inch wheels. Options foil of our test car listed gray paint Graphite $ 395 and a navigation system for $ 495, which brought the price of test $ 30,665, or $ 1,565 more than the most expensive car of our subcompact test crossover comparison, a well-equipped Fiat 500X. high entry cost does not include Sport Touring desirable, such as a proximity key and push button start, heated front seats and a sunroof features. This last feature can be added for $ 900, but the heated seats required reinforcements for leather or premium adjustment.
While there are better values in the subcompact segment crossover, customers who prefer to experience quiet and comfortable driving is a lot to like about this a little more cheerful Encore. Unless you can score a deal smoking, however, we suggest you wait for the updated 2017 version that promises not only updates the design and technology, but also makes this turbo direct-injection four-cylinder available in the most of the lineup. This will be like having your potato and eat it too.
